Mahama leaves for Equitorial Guinea
President John Mahama left Accra yesterday for Malabo, Equitorial Guinea, to attend a meeting of Heads of State of countries along the Gulf of Guinea.
The meeting, convened by President Teodoro Obiang Nguema Mbasogo, is expected to focus on maritime security along the Gulf of Guinea.
A statement issued from Flagstaff House, said President Mahama was expected to make some strong interventions at the summit.
It said President Mahama had in recent times been discussing how to strengthen the maritime borders with his counterparts in Ivory Coast, Togo, Benin and Nigeria.
“Ghana has over the last three years, upgraded the equipment stock of the Ghana Navy and recently established a Police Marine Unit with a view to checking piracy and also protect the country's oil installations and maritime boundaries,” the statement said.
President Mahama will return home on Saturday, August 10, 2013.
