PNC leadership contest gets heated
The People’s National Convention (PNC ) is locked up in a fierce leadership contest since the party announced its activities leading to its national elections in August this year.

Available for grabs are all the 17 national positions, including that of the flag bearer to lead the party for the 2016 elections.
The position that seems to be fiercely contested is that of the national chairman, who will double as the leader of the party.
Four heavy weights of the party, including the incumbent chairman, have already announced their intentions to contest the elections.
The incumbent chairman, veteran politician Alhaji Ahmed Ramadan, is under fire as three stalwarts of the party have started moves to unseat him.
The three are: Mr Bernard Mornah, General Secretary of the party, Mr David Apasera, a three-time former Member of Parliament for Bolga on the ticket of the party and currently the National Treasurer of the party, and Mr David Nabi, a leading member of the party.
The General Secretary position is being contested by Mr Emmanuel Wilson and Atik Mohammed, both leading members of the party, whose campaign teams have started pasting their posters ahead of the national elections.
Even though the nominations for the August national elections have not been opened yet, names have started popping up for the various positions as those interested have started doing their homework.

Mr Abu Ramadan, another stalwart of the party, has given the strongest indication that he would contest the National Organiser position while Mr Alidu Mohammed Nasir -Deen, the parliamentary candidate of the PNC for the Tamale South constituency in the 2012 election, has stuck out his neck to contest the National Youth Organiser position when nominations open in July .
Miss Janet Nabila, the incumbent National Women Organiser of the party, has expressed her preparedness to seek re-election to complete the good work she has started.
She said the PNC had set the pace by allowing women aspirants to contest the polling station, constituency, regional and national elections without paying any nomination and filing fees.
She urged other parties to take a cue from the PNC and allow gender issues to feature in their activities and stop paying lip-service to gender issues.
The 17 national positions being contested are those of the national chairman, three vice chairmen, general secretary, two deputy general secretaries, national organiser and his two deputies,national women organiser and her two deputies , national youth organiser and his two deputies, national treasurer and his two deputies and the communications secretary.
Last week the party held a standing committee meeting during which it unveiled its calender of activities with polling station elections in May, constituency in June ,regional in July and the national congress to elect 17 national officers and a flagbearer in August this year.
