Banku, Powers demand GH¢50,000 each or no fight
The highly-anticipated cruiserweight fight between Michael Ayittey Powers and Braimah ‘Bukom Banku’ Kamoko slated for the Accra Sports Stadium next week is almost turning into a circus, following new demands by the two fighters for an increased purse of GH¢50,000 each or would pull out of the fight altogether if the promoter fails to meet their financial demands.
Each week presents new twists to the non-title fight which has already seen two changes in dates, and the latest turn of event has left promoter Alex Ntiamoah Boakye upset because of the unreasonable demands by boxers who had already signed a contract which guaranteed each of them GH¢30,000.

Mr Boakye, of Box Office Promotions, has called the bluff of both Powers and Bukom Banku, warning they risk endangering their careers if they continue with their belligerent ways which could derail the much-publicised May 15 fight, brought forward by one day after consultation with the Osu Traditional Council who had concerns with the May 16 date as it coincided with traditional activities heralding the Homowo festival at Osu.
He described as “a huge joke” the new demand which was made by the boxers during an interview last Monday with an Accra-based radio station, Citi FM, and insisted that the bout would come on with the original purse as signed by the two boxers.
“I have signed a contractual agreement with them and they are bound by it,” Mr Boakye told the Graphic Sports in an interview yesterday.
According to the promoter, uncertainties now surrounding the fight were due in part to the initial postponement, coupled with the attitude of the boxers, forcing one of the major sponsors to withdraw.
