Asante Kotoko unveils Nana Yaw Amponsah as new CEO

Ghana's Premiership club, Kumasi Asante Kotoko, has unveiled Nana Yaw Amponsah, a former Chairman of Division One side, Phar Rangers FC, as it's new Chief Executive Officer (CEO).

The announcement of his position, the first to be done publicly, was announced to supporters and other stakeholders of the club in Kumasi on Friday by the spokesman for the board, Mr Kwakdwo Boateng Gyamfi.

"After a successful interview session Nana Yaw Amponsah was chosen and he has the full blessings of the live patron of the club, the Asantehene, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II," he said.

Until his appointment, Mr Amponsah was the Chairman of Division One side, Phar Rangers FC.

He has held onto that position since 2016 and has doubled as a licensed players' agent from 2008 to 2018.

He is also the founder and CEO of Cornny Drinks Limited.

Nana Yaw Amponsah holds a master's degree in sports law and has been in the game for at least 15 years.

He was once a failed candidate for the FA presidential race which was won by Kurts Okraku.

Appreciation

Decorated in the club's traditional red jersey and flanked by the bigwigs of Kotoko, Nana Yaw expressed appreciation to Otumfuo and those who brought him to power.

Support

He called for support to build a strong foundation and "present an edifice that will last generations."

"Kotoko is bigger than the New Patriotic Party and the National Democratic Congress or any political party. I, therefore, urged you to give me double support of what you give to your political parties for me to succeed," he said.

Vision

Nana Yaw did not announce an elaborate vision for the club but promised among other things to use football to create employment and make Asanteman the food basket of Ghana.

Background

Recently, Chief of Staff at the Manhyia Palace, Mr Kofi Badu,  inaugurated a nine- member board of Kumasi Asante Kotoko Football Club.

The Live Patron of the club, the Asantehene, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, named the board to rebuild the brand both in terms of performance on the pitch and into a viable self-sustaining economic entity ultimately to reclaim it's pre-eminence position among elite clubs in Africa.

The board is chaired by the former board chair, Mr Kwame Kyei. It has Mr Jude Arthur of the Ghana Commercial Bank as vice chair,  Kwakdwo Boateng Gyamfi, Board chair of Ghana Exim Bank, Kwasi Osei Ofori, Erdmark Group and CEO of Rockshure Mining company, Aljaji Lamin, a businessman, Kwamena Mensah, a corporate lawyer and Joseph Yaw Addo, former head of the sports Directorate, KNUST.

The rest were Miss Evelyn Nsiah Asare, Acting head of sports, Sunyani Technical University, and Baffour Kwame Kusi, Otumfuo's Ankobeahene.
