Students of the Achimota School will now have the opportunity to acquire swimming skills on campus after the 1987 Year Group of the Old Achimotans Association  (OAA) last Friday handed over a refurbished swimming pool to the authorities of the school as part of activities to climax the 25th anniversary of the group.

The renovation of the swimming pool was in respect of the school’s tradition which mandates every year group of its alumni on their 25th anniversary after graduation to adopt and execute a legacy project for the benefit of its current and future generation of students.

The three-year project aimed at restoring the dilapidated pool, was undertaken at a cost of GhȻ170,000 by Messrs Blue Haven Pools and now measures seven and half feet at the deep end and three and half feet the shallow end.

The swimming pool also has grab bars for easy access to the pool, changing rooms and a kiddie pool to facilitate swimming lessons. It is also fitted with non-slip tiles.

Akora Jennifer Owusu, the presdent of the 1987 Year Group disclosed that another year group also wanted to adopt the restoration of the swimming pool as their legacy project.

“It took the wise counsel of the board and the headmistress to save this baby. We hope that the students enjoy the use of the pool and pass the lessons learnt from this and other experiences on to the future generations,” he said.

The chairman of the hand over ceremony, Akora Kwame Pianin urged year groups to work together in order to facilitate the completion of more projects for the school.
