Ahead of UBO world title bout: Coach Believer cautions Nyantakyi

Veteran boxing trainer, Abdul Rasheed Williams, known as Coach Believer, has cautioned of a tough battle for Stanley ‘Ashanti Warrior’ Nyantakyi in his upcoming challenge for the Universal Boxing Organisation (UBO) world title against Argentine Sergio ‘El Canalla’ Sosa.

The bout is scheduled to take place in Wisconsin, USA, on December 7.

In an interview with Graphic Sports, Coach Believer expressed scepticism about Nyantakyi’s readiness for a world title fight. “Nyantakyi is an up-and-coming boxer.

This is a world title, and he hasn’t yet reached the level where he should be fighting for such a prestigious belt,” Williams said. “The opportunity came early for him, and while it’s his chance, I have little or no hope that he can win.”

Coach Believer, who also trains the national female amateur team, the Black Hitters, emphasised the importance of being fully prepared for a world title bout. “A world title is no joke.”

“If Nyantakyi wins, it would be a miracle and a great achievement for him. However, based on my experience and understanding of the sport, it’s challenging to predict a victory for a novice against an experienced fighter like Sosa.”

Sosa, 30, is an orthodox fighter known for his powerful punches and holds a professional record of 17 fights, including four losses. His most recent bout ended in defeat against Kazakh fighter Sultan Zaurbek in Brighton, UK.

Despite Sosa’s experience, Coach Believer believes Nyantakyi should use this opportunity as a significant learning experience. “Regardless of the outcome, this fight should serve as a valuable lesson for Nyantakyi,” he advised. “He should aim to perform like a champion, as doing so will attract international recognition and set the stage for future world title opportunities.”

Nyantakyi, at 23, is stepping into the spotlight with only one loss in his 11 professional bouts.

The Ghanaian boxer, who recently secured the UBO Africa featherweight title with a knockout win over Isaac Nettey, remains optimistic about his upcoming US debut.

“This is a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity and I am determined to make it memorable for all Ghanaians,” Nyantakyi told the Graphic Sports. “By the Grace of God, this world title will come to Ghana. I promise my people that I will win,” he assured.
