Azumah leads boxing legends to 2025 Asafotufiami Fight Night
Boxing royalty is heading to Big Ada this Saturday as the legendary Azumah Nelson and a host of former world champions storm the 2025 Asafotufiami Boxing Night, promising an electrifying evening of inspiration, celebration and knockout action.
Organised the President of the GaDangme Youth and CEO of Sports Education and Management (SEM) Promotions, Edward Coleman, the high-octane event is part of the annual Asafotufiam Festival, held in honour of the chiefs and people of the Ada Traditional Area.
However, this year’s festival promises something special.
Ghana’s boxing icons, including former world champions Azumah, Ike “Bazooka” Quartey and Joshua Clottey, are set to grace the ringside in support of a noble cause of unearthing and inspiring the next generation of fighters from the region.
“This isn’t just about the punches thrown in the ring,” said Coleman. “It’s about sparking dreams, promoting peace and unity and showcasing the hidden potential in our communities.”
The night’s fight card has something for everyone, with juvenile, amateur and female exhibition bouts lined up to entertain fans and celebrate the sporting spirit of Ada.
The headline act sees Charles Tetteh, crowned Best Boxer of Season 1 of the Ghana Professional Boxing League, take on Fatiou Sarouna of Togo in an explosive 8-round international super featherweight clash that’s expected to bring the Asafotu Park crowd to its feet.
Speaking at the official launch of the event at the McDan La Town Park, the Director of Tourism at the Ministry of Tourism, Arts and Culture,Geoffrey Tamakloe, hailed the initiative as a bold and forward-thinking move.
“It’s refreshing, progressive and exactly the kind of grassroots development we need,” said Mr Tamakloe.
“Bringing boxing and sport to the doorsteps of remote areas such as Ada doesn’t just create future stars; it adds value to Ghana’s eco-tourism drive and contributes meaningfully to local economic development.”
The fight night also forms part of a broader cultural and sporting calendar, including the GaDangme Homowo Festival Celebrations and the GaDangme Youth Sports Festival and Tourism Awards & Dinner Night 2025.
