Basketball: GRA ladies win bronze
The Ghana Revenue Authority(GRA) ladies hockey team returned home last night with bronze after participating in the Africa Club Championship in Luanda, Angola,a fortnight ago.
The competition, an annual tournament for the league winners of the various league clubs on the continent, attracted over 20 participants.
Ghana was represented by the GRA ladies hockey team because it won last year’s women’s league.
The leader of the delegation, Benjamin Baafi, told the Daily Graphic yesterday that the talents identified at the tournament would be tapped and utilised at the national team level, particularly at the upcoming Commonwealth Games and other major international and national competitions.
In a related development, Mr Baafi disclosed that the top eight basketball teams in West Africa would participate in a basketball tournament in Benin next month.
Similarly, the basketball men’s team of the GRA, which is unbeaten for 14 years, were runners-up at the last tournament and are hoping to make amends.
The Braves, as the basketball team is called, would depart Accra on February 6 and return on February 10.
According to Mr Baafi, the Zone III championship would feature countries in West Africa, including Nigeria, Benin the hosts, Cote d’Ivoire, Burkina Faso, Niger and Liberia.
