More than 80 participants took part in the course, which focussed on how the game is played.

Earlier, Madam Estriga, who arrived last Thursday, told the Daily Graphic she intended to create awareness about the sport in Ghana insisting that talents abound in the country.

“Ghana has great talents in handball and the sport is gradually gaining grounds in Ghana and I would love to be part of this success story”, she stated.

Madam Estriga travels to Sekondi-Takoradi for the same upgrading programme for participants from Central and Western regions, while Ashanti and Brong Ahafo regions are to take their turn later in the week.

The final workshop will be organised in Bolgatanga for participants from the Northern, Upper East and Upper West regions.

The International Handball Federation (IHF) has selected Ghana to organise a Level II handball coaching course for teachers in the first and second cycle institutions.

The course is being held in three different course centres to encompass all 10 regions of the country.

According to Mr Nortey Dowuona, vice-chairman of the Handball Association of Ghana (HAG) and the Greater Accra Regional Handball Association chairman, the workshop is to upgrade the technical knowledge of physical instructors and teachers in schools.

“It is also aimed at equipping them with the needed skills in conformity with the new trends in handball’, he told the Daily Graphic.
