Jonina, Faith Ladies to play final of FA Cup

Women's Premier League (WPL) sides, Jonina Ladies and Faith Ladies will play in the final of this season’s FA Cup following their wins in their semi-finals clashes last Sunday.

It will be the first time two teams from the same zone will be vying for the coveted trophy of the competition that is steadily building a tradition of crowning new champions each season.

This final clash will also be the first time either side has advanced to the final of the Women’s FA Cup since joining the WPL.

Scores

The two sides recorded wins, albeit different scorelines, with Jonina Ladies beating Division One side, Rootz Sistaz 4-1, while Faith Ladies earned a 1-0 win over former champions and giants Hasaacas Ladies in the double-header semi-finals hosted at the Teshie McDan Sports Complex in Accra.

A brace each from Matilda Fodu (13th, 29th) and Joyce Atimbila (56th, 58th) ensured Accra-based Jonina ended the hopes of the Somanya-based side who were hoping to continue with their Cinderella story in this campaign, having edged two-time champions, Ampem Darkoa, out in their quarter-finals stage, on penalties after a 1-1 draw game.

In the second semi-final game, Faith Ladies, who have struggled in the WPL this season, kept their FA Cup dream on course, beating the more fancied 2021 champions,  Hasaacas Ladies.

Living up to its unpredictable nature, Faith Ladies got the upper hand with a 69th-minute strike from Dorcas Okyere to end the giants’ hope of being close to lifting their second FA Cup trophy.
