‘League break a blessing for Hearts’

The one-month break of the Premier League has offered Accra Hearts of Oak the opportunity to put their house in order by making feverish preparations that will make it possible for them to launch an onslaught to topple Kumasi  Asante Kotoko from the summit of the  league table.

According to Mr  Muheed Saeed, both the technical team and  players used the break not only  to assess  the fortunes of Hearts  in  addressing  the challenges that confronted  them  during the first round of the league, but also used the period to establish a bond of friendship.

“There is a bond of friendship  and harmonious relationship between the technical team and the players  which will be translated into positive results when the second round of the Premier League resumes,” Mr Saeed told Graphic Sports during  an interview in Accra. 

“So far, we have played three friendly matches since we resumed camping on January 6, as part of our preparations towards reclaiming the top spot of the Premier League, and the results indicate that we are on course”, he added.

“We first accounted for division one side King Solomon 3-1, walloped Young Wise 5-2, and went to Dunkwa to beat Starke by a lone goal. We would have had a cricket scoreline in our game against Starke, but  goalkeeper Joshua Opoku, who was a former player of Hearts,  played  many sticky situations,” Saeed explained.

“We were progressing steadily   and battling for the top position when we were slapped with the ban  that prevented  us from playing in our favourite home grounds. Before then, we also had a lot of injuries among key players, and that affected our performance.

“We have finished serving the ban, and many of our players have fully recovered and have started intense training, so we are battle ready to wrest the league title from our opponents” he  assured.

Mr. Saeed said  36 players had  been in camp with only three – Thomas Abbey, Kenneth Okoro and skipper Moro Abubarkar — still recovering from  their injuries.
