They are the MP for Adentan, Mr Yaw Buabeng Asamoah, and the MP for Ho Central, Mr Benjamin Kpodo.

They presented 3,000 and 2,587 mathematical sets, respectively.

At Adentan
During a visit to Holy Rosary Roman Catholic Junior High, Adentan Community Basic, De Youngster’s International School, The Light Academy and Victory Presbyterian Church School in Accra last Thursday, Mr Asamoah said prioritising education was the only way to ensure progress in the country.

He was accompanied by the Deputy Director of Monitoring and Supervision of Teaching and Learning, Mrs Zainabu Faalong, and the Coordinator of Basic Schools, Mr Clifford Budu, both from the Adentan Municipal Assembly (AdMA).

Advice
Mr Asamoah urged the candidates to work hard and build confidence in themselves to achieve their desired dreams and aspirations.

“I believe and know that you will pass. Our priority is education; when you have education, the country is deemed to progress. What the government and your parents can do is to satisfy your educational needs, but you also have a role to play in order to make an impact,” he stated.

The MP also advised them to do their best, adding that “if your seniors had made it, there is no reason why you cannot also perform well.”

Bond
Mr Asamoah said the presentation symbolised a bond between himself and the candidates to perform well in their exams to justify the investment made.

“BECE is a big mountain to climb and so parents and teachers, as well as the country, need to support the students to be motivated and confident to come out with flying colours,” he added.

The MP further called for mentorship and guidance of students on values such as integrity, truth and hard work.

At Ho
Mr Kpodo presented 2,587 maths sets to 90 schools to be distributed to all BECE candidates in the Ho municipality as part of his contribution to motivate the candidates to do better in this year’s examination.

Number of candidates
A total of 2,587 candidates, made up of 1330 girls and 1257 boys from 90 public and private schools, will take part in this year’s examination at 10 centres.

Mr Kpodo stated that the provision of the maths set should let the students realise that the municipality was behind them so they must do their best to excel.

He said the candidates had all “it takes to excel in the examination.”

Better education system
Looking at the improved conditions students enjoy, the MP advised the candidates to prepare adequately by taking advantage of the teachers and available reading materials to make better grades and not to re-sit any of the subjects.

“You do not have any excuse to fail. Your time is better. At least you have a place to learn and the books as well. In our time, there was no electricity but yet we strived to make it in life.”

No examination fraud
The Municipal Director Of Education, Mr John Tepui, asked the candidates to eschew any examination malpractices as their future depended on “this particular exams which will determine whether you continue climbing the academic ladder or not,” he asserted.
