UK-Ghana Chamber of Commerce honours top businesses at Accra gala

Vivo Energy Ghana PLC dominated the UK-Ghana Chamber of Commerce (UKGCC) third End of Year Gala Dinner and Awards, walking away with three titles at a ceremony held at the Kempinski Hotel Gold Coast City Accra.

The platinum member clinched the Economic Impact Award, the Most Outstanding UK Business in Ghana Award, and the Decades of UK–Ghana Business Partnership Award, cementing its position as a cornerstone of bilateral commerce.

Other winners included Cyndex Ltd, which took home the Social Impact Award, GCB Bank PLC, named Best Tax Payer, and IT Consortium LTD, awarded the Dynamic Member Award.

Speaking on behalf of UKGCC Executive Council Chairman Sir Anthony Pile, MBE, Vice Chairman Mr John Addo Kufuor hailed the chamber’s resilience, declaring that the event served as “the perfect prelude to the UKGCC’s upcoming tenth anniversary in 2026.” He vowed that “the UKGCC will not relent in its mission to champion your interests and create platforms that connect you to genuine growth opportunities—here in Ghana, across the UK, and around the world.”

British High Commissioner Dr Christian Rogg told the packed ballroom that Ghana’s private sector had impressed him from day one. “The vibrancy in the private sector in Ghana has been really impressive because of the interactions that I have had with many of you in the first few weeks,” he said. “The UK remains deeply committed to strengthening trade, investment, and economic cooperation between our two nations.”

The government used the platform to roll out fresh incentives for British investors. Mr Abdul Nasser Suglo Alidu, Head of Strategy and Programmes for the 24-Hour Economy Initiative, announced that more than 285,000 acres of land have been secured in the Oti and Volta Regions for new industrial parks. Feasibility studies are also advancing on the flagship Volta Economic Corridor Project.

“The 24-hour economy is about making Ghana a lot more competitive,” Mr Alidu stated. “If Ghana becomes more competitive, we can trade better with our partners. A stronger economy will attract more UK companies to do business in Ghana while empowering Ghanaian firms to expand into the UK market.”

Mr Kofi Addo, speaking for the Minister of Trade, Agribusiness and Industry, assured the audience of continued policy support to ease private-sector expansion.

The night ended with a ceremonial toast to stronger UK-Ghana ties, led by Mr John Addo Kufuor, Dr Christian Rogg, Ghana Investment Promotion Centre CEO Mr Simon Madjie, Mr Abdul Nasser Suglo Alidu, Ms Anita Quarshie of the Ghana Free Zones Authority, and Mr Kofi Addo.

Organisers confirmed the next gala will return in November 2027. The event was sponsored by KGL Group, Telecel, QGMI, Johnnie Walker, Stella Artois, CLUB Premium Lager, Kempinski Hotel, East Airport International School, Equatorial Coca-Cola Bottling Company Ghana, Voltic (GH) LTD, Blue Skies Ghana LTD, Fidelity Bank Ghana LTD, and First Bank Ghana LTD.

Founded in 2016, the UKGCC is the leading bilateral chamber linking British and Ghanaian firms and was crowned 2023 British Chambers of Commerce International Chamber of the Year.
