A joyous moment for Nana Ama McBrown as she picks her award for Best Favourite Actress.

Music takes over Golden Movie awards

It was a night dedicated to celebrate outstanding actors and actresses in the African movie Industry but that was overshadowed by great stage performances from female singers, Nana Yaa, Irene Logan, Ofie and Eazzy.

They were obviously the “saviours” on the night as they took turns to thrill guests at the maiden edition of the Golden Movie Awards which came off at the Banquet Hall, State House, last Saturday.

Backed by the Collective band, the ladies  proved they have got what it is to excite as they set the tone of the night with their soothing voices and energetic performances.

The music sessions might be the only aspect of the event the organisers could boast of. Right from the foyer of the Statehouse where the “Blue Carpet” which had earlier been publicised to be hosted by Gh One’s Berla Mundi and comedian, DKB, did not happen.

It was rather hosted by a pair who obviously were not up to the task. They were not able to get patrons to answer the popular question ‘who are you wearing’ to satisfaction.

But that wasn’t the only disappointment. Legendary comedian, KSM, who was the official MC made just an appearance on stage to introduce the nominees in the Best Golden Costume and Best Golden Make-up categories.

The affair of the nigth was steered by DKB. His regular interjections of jokes lightened up the moods of the audience who were obviously disappointed at the turn out of events.

The absence of many of the winners also took some shine off the event. Poor technical production and co-ordination were major headaches patrons had to endure as well.

That notwithstanding, the main purpose of the night was achieved with some popular actors and actresses such as Nana Ama Mc Brown, Adjetey Annang and Juliet Ibrahim beat their “rivals” in the various categories they were nominated in.

Adjetey Annang won the Golden Best Actor in Drama

An elated McBrown was full of praise and appreciation for her numerous fans for the “show of love” when she was presented with the Favourite Best Actress Awards.

She beat the likes of Yvonne Nelson, Ama K. Abebrese, Nadia Buari, Juliet Ibrahim, Tonto Dikeh and Uche Jombo from Nigeria.

“I knew I had many loyal fans who love and appreciate my talent but I now believe I’m the people’s favourite,” she said.

Actor, Adjetey Annang, won the Golden Actor in Drama. He beat a good competition from Gbenga Tityloye, John Dumelo, Blossom Chukwujekwu and Joseph Benjamin.

One of the surprises on the night was the Favourite Actor awards which went to Elikem Kumordzie. Despite strong contenders like John Dumelo, Majid Michel, Alex Ekubo, Jim Iyke and Lil Wayne in the category, he emerged the winner based on public votes.

Nigerian comedian, AY, and Akorfa Edjeani-Asiedu

Shirley Frimpong Manso also won the Golden Movie Awards Director for her movie, Love Or Something Like That. In all, 28 awards were presented to winners in the various categories.

Ofie brought the curtain down on the three-hour show but the delectable singer sang to an almost empty auditorium since many patrons had left by then.
