Meetings of Parliament adjourned indefinitely again
The Speaker of Parliament, Alban S.K. Bagbin, has once again adjourned sittings indefinitely following the lack of quorum to take decisions.
Parliament reconvened on Thursday morning following a recall.
Adjourning the sittings indefinitely, the Speaker said the Business Committee has not presented anything before the house to transact and based on their absence and the prevailing circumstances, he is compelled once again to adjourn the house.

The Chairman of the National Peace Council (NPC), Rev. Dr Ernest Adu-Gyamfi, has urged political parties, institutions and citizens to use non-violent means to resolve conflicts.

EC hands over certified final register to parties
The Electoral Commission (EC) has presented soft copies of the final certified voters register for the December 7, 2024 presidential and parliamentary elections to political parties and independent candidates participating in the polls.
The register contains the Name Reference List, which is a photo register with eligible voters' information; the Exceptions List of individuals with exceptions to the voting rules; the Confidence List; Absent Voter List; and the Transfer Voter List.
The rest are the Proxy List of voters registered for proxy voting and the Manual Verification List of individuals requiring manual verification due to errors in the data capturing process.

Parliament resumes: Consideration of govt business to face stiff opposition
Parliament resumes to complete critical government businesses after a two-week suspension of the fifth session of the Eighth Parliament.
These government businesses were not considered after the Speaker, Alban Sumana Kingsford Bagbin, adjourned the House indefinitely on October 22, 2024.
However, with the Speaker summoning Members of Parliament (MPs) to return to the House, it is expected that the Majority caucus would go all out to push through these business items in a critical election year.

Ghana most targeted by DDOS cyber attacks in West Africa
Ghana has emerged as the most targeted country in West Africa for cyber attacks, particularly Distributed Denial of Service (DDoS) attacks, which disrupt networks by overwhelming them with excessive traffic.
In the first half of 2024, Ghana experienced a staggering 4,753 DDoS attacks across industries such as computer services and telecommunications, according to NETSCOUT’s latest DDoS Threat Intelligence Report.
DDoS attacks, short for Distributed Denial of Service, occur when cybercriminals flood a network with high volumes of traffic, exhausting its capacity and causing service outages.

MOBA president presents cash award to NSMQ winning team
The President of Mfantsipim Old Boys Association (MOBA), the alumni group of Mfantsipim School, Ebusuapanyin Moses Kwesi Baiden Jnr, has presented GH¢111,100 to the school’s National Science and Maths Quiz (NSMQ) winning team.
The headmaster of the school and four coordinators of the NSMQ team were presented with GH¢50,000 for their guidance and commitment to the students success.
Each of the three contestants, who won the trophy, also received GH¢15,000, totalling GH¢45,000 to support their educational pursuits.

Stop pressing girls’ breasts its barbaric — Dr Wiafe
Dr Beatrice Wiafe Addai, Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of Breast Care International (BCI), has cautioned parents and guardians against pressing the breasts of girls who they think are too young to develop breasts at their age.
She said the use of all manner of objects, including box iron, to press back the breasts as on the back of belief that it would make the girls promiscuous at that tender age.

Shift to holistic education - Rev. Prof. Asare-Danso advocates knowledge, skills, moral values
A Professor of Religious and Moral Education at the Department of Arts Education at the University of Cape Coast, Rev. Prof. Seth Asare-Danso, says it is disheartening that the current education system focuses on knowledge and skills acquisition at the expense of moral values.
He said while the original concept of education, especially as conceived by mission schools, was to develop a holistic individual, the current system was largely targeted at passing examinations.

Confidence, Richard Quaye named in UK Police hearing which resulted in sacking of officer for attempting to smuggle Hajia4Real's child
A UK Metropolitan Police officer has been dismissed for attempting to smuggle a Ghanaian child into the country, knowing the child’s mother was facing extradition on serious fraud charges.
Police Constable (PC) Bright Shine-Sedziafa, who served in the West Area Command unit, was found guilty of gross misconduct after a Metropolitan Police hearing that uncovered his role in facilitating the child's entry and falsifying border documents.
PC Shine-Sedziafa reportedly met the child’s mother, referred to as Mrs C, at a relative’s home in late 2022, shortly before travelling to Ghana for his father’s funeral.

Judiciary, executive colluding to weaken Parliament - Speaker Bagbin
The Speaker of Parliament, Alban S.K. Bagbin has described the current stand off in Parliament, and the matters before the Supreme Court as a collective attempt by the Judiciary and the executive to weaken the legislative arm of government.
Speaking at a press conference in Accra Wednesday afternoon [Nov 6, 2024], to address the state of affairs of Ghana’s parliament, Mr Bagbin said Parliament was a repository of the sovereign will of the people.
As such, any act by anybody into its affairs was an interference and therefore posed a direct challenge to the essence, jurisdiction, authorities, powers and functions to the workings of Parliament.

Speaker Bagbin directs Clerk of Parliament to re-transmit anti-LGBT Bill to President for assent
The Speaker of Parliament, Alban Bagbin, has directed the Clerk to Parliament to re-submit the anti LGBT Bill to the President for assent.
The Clerk had earlier attempted to transmit the Bill to the President for assent but the Presidency rejected it citing a pending case at the Supreme Court on the legality of the Bill
The Presidency explained that until the final determination of the pending case at the Supreme Court, it was not going to receive the Bill.

The mother of 16-year-old Dennis Owusu Ansah, who was fatally stabbed in Anloga in the Ashanti region on Monday night, has called for justice as her family mourns the sudden loss of her son.
Dennis, a recent Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE) graduate, was eagerly preparing to start school at Tweneboa Kodua Senior High School later this week.

PLAYBACK: Speaker Bagbin's media briefing on matters in Parliament
The Speaker of Parliament, Alban Kingsford Sumana Bagbin has planned a media briefing Wednesday afternoon amidst the controversy of which side of the House is now the Majority, pending a Supreme Court interpretation on Article 97 on when a seat can be declared vacant.
The Speaker recently declared four seats vacant on the grounds that, the affected Members of Parliament had crossed carpet, by filing to contest the December 7, 2024 parliamentary elections in different capacities, either as independent or on the ticket of political parties, a development, which is different from the status on which they are currently in the House.
Following that, Speaker concluded that they have crossed carpets and went ahead to declare their seats vacant.

Man kills wife, daughter - Jailed for life
The High Court in Accra has sentenced a 47- year-old man to life imprisonment for murdering his German wife and daughter at Kokrobitey in Accra.
The convict,Boigouna Aloys,was sentenced by Justice Mary Maame Ekue Yanzuh, after a seven-member jury returned a unanimous verdict of guilty on the charge of two counts of murder.
This was after the prosecution led by an Assistant State Attorney, Yvonne Yaachie Adomako, had called five witnesses to prove the prosecution’s case.

Ghana records 34,000 new HIV infections in the first nine months of 2024 - GHS
The National HIV and AIDS Control Programme at the Ghana Health Service (GHS) has reported over 34,000 new HIV infections between January and the third quarter of 2024.
The Programme Manager, Dr Stephen Ayisi Addo has stressed the critical need for public testing and screening, noting that around 1.3 million people were screened during this period.
Dr. Addo made these remarks during the launch of the 2024 World AIDS Day event, organised by the Ghana AIDS Commission. The ceremony included a candlelight procession to honor those who have lost their lives to AIDS."

Cocoa Processing Company Limited posts $13m loss amid rising costs and declining production
The Cocoa Processing Company Limited (CPC) has reported a deepening financial crisis, recording a loss of $13.08 million for the nine-month period ending September 30, 2024.
This represents a 5.6 percent increase from the $12.38 million loss posted during the same period last year, primarily driven by escalating operational costs, including higher selling, distribution, and financial expenses.
According to its September 2024 Unaudited Financial Statement, CPC’s revenue fell to $31.1 million for the third quarter, down by 3.86 percent from $32.3 million in the previous year.

Nigeria's army chief dies aged 56
Nigeria's army chief General Taoreed Lagbaja has died after a "period of illness" aged 56, President Bola Tinubu has announced.
He died on Tuesday night in Lagos. The exact details of his illness were not shared.
