Economist and University of Ghana lecturer, Professor Godfred Bopkin, has emphasised the need for targeted measures to reduce production costs and enhance the competitiveness of Ghana’s local industries.
Speaking as a panellist on TV3’s Key Issues programme on Saturday [Nov 23, 2024], Professor Bopkin explained that the high cost of locally made goods is largely due to structural challenges such as energy costs, transportation inefficiencies, and reliance on imported materials.

The Medical and Dental Council (MDC) has inducted 498 newly qualified medical doctors and dental practitioners into its profession.
The inductees consist of graduates from the University of Ghana, the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST), the University of Cape Coast (UCC), the University of Development Studies (UDS), the University of Health and Allied Sciences (UHAS), and private medical schools – Family Health Medical School and the Accra College of Medicine.

ECOWAS deploys observers for Dec. 7 election
The Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS) has deployed over 100 observers to Ghana for the 2024 general election scheduled for December 7, the Head of the Electoral Assistance Division of ECOWAS, Serigne Mamadou Ka, has said.
He said an initial team of 16 long-term observers arrived on Wednesday, November 20, 2024, while a group of 90 short-term observers would arriive on December 2 or 3.

A Wudu Issahaka, a 50-year-old herdsman at Kojokura, a nomadic settlement in the West Gonja Municipality in the Savannah Region, was rushed to a health facility one hot afternoon last year, feeling feverish and barely able to stand.
He had been battling illness for days and his condition worsened until his family rushed him for urgent medical care.

Tema-Mpakadan 97.7 kilometer standard guage railway line inaugurated
The 97.7 kilometer Tema-Mpakadan standard guage railway line and two Diesel Multiple Unit (DMU) trains were on Friday inaugurated by President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo.
The two DMUs, with a total capacity of 255 passengers would facilitate the movement of people and goods along the Eastern corridor of Ghana.

MP denies demolishing GBC Staff Bungalows, pledges probe into land allocations
The Member of Parliament for Bortianor Ngleshie Amanfro, Sylvester Tetteh, has denied allegations of illegally demolishing a staff bungalow belonging to the Ghana Broadcasting Corporation (GBC) at Weija to pave way for the construction of a school project.
The MP who also serves as a Deputy Minister of Information has planned to put up a school in the area and had engaged the GBC to use a part of the land for the project.
However, GBC has accused him of demolishing a staff bungalow at an area which is not part of where has been allocated to the MP for the school project.
