Don’t boycott 41st Farmers Day Celebration – GNAFF urges farmers and stakeholders

The Ghana National Association of Farmers and Fishermen (GNAFF) has appealed to all farmers and stakeholders to disregard calls for a boycott of this year’s 41st Farmers Day Celebration.

In a statement signed by its President, Michael Tetteh Kwetey, and issued ahead of the national event, the association said the celebration remains an important occasion to honour the dedication, hard work, and resilience of Ghanaian farmers.

“Therefore, GNAFF encourages all farmers to participate and celebrate their contributions to the nation’s development,” the statement said, adding that the association recognised the challenges confronting farmers and appreciated their efforts in sustaining Ghana’s agricultural industry.

Commitment

GNAFF reaffirmed its commitment to addressing the difficulties faced by farmers and pledged to continue working closely with the government and relevant partners to find lasting solutions.

“GNAFF therefore uses this medium to eulogise and appeal to all farmers to wave off the decision of boycotting full participation in the 41st Farmers Day Celebration this year and honour the invitation of the government while we find resolve for the challenges,” the statement read.

It reiterated the association’s determination to ensure that farmers receive the necessary support and that pragmatic measures are taken to improve their livelihoods.

Rice farmers

Addressing the growing concerns of rice farmers over the purchase of their produce, the GNAFF said it was actively engaging stakeholders to link rice producers with reliable markets and buyers.

The association appealed for calm and patience from affected farmers while efforts continue to resolve the matter.

“We urge rice farmers and all affected farmers to remain patient as we work to resolve these issues,” the statement said.

It further added, “GNAFF therefore makes a clarion call to all farmers to remain focused and calm with the utmost respect as we work hard to feed the nation. We are committed to advocating for farmers’ rights and ensuring their interests are protected.”
