AME Zion Bishops commit to education, social development

The African Methodist Episcopal (AME) Zion Church has held its global leadership meeting in Ghana, during which the Church renewed its commitment to education and social development.

During the meeting attended mainly by bishops of the church, a new worship centre, the Kenneth Monroe Community Worship Centre in Accra, was also dedicated.

Speaking to the press after the meeting, the Resident Bishop for the Western-West Africa Episcopal District (WWAED) and President of the Board of Bishops, Hilliard Dogbe, highlighted the church’s investment in education, health care and social development as a critical tool for societal transformation.

“Education and evangelism have always been our hallmark, and we never relent in that effort, apart from other social interventions such as health care and other activities that we do,” he stated.

The five-day meeting was attended by leaders of the Church within the West African sub-region, and they deliberated on their activities within the year, as well as planned for 2025.

Present, future

Bishop Dogbe mentioned that the AME Zion Church was currently operating five high schools in Ghana and a university in Liberia.

He added that the church had plans to establish a technical university in Ghana; however, it was focusing on strengthening its existing educational institutions for now.

Bishop Dogbe emphasised that the church’s influence extended beyond education to include vital social programmes and health care initiatives.

These efforts, he believed, aligned with the church’s mission to address both the spiritual and physical needs of society.

For his part, the Presiding Bishop of Eastern North Carolina, Bishop Darren Moore, commended the partnership between the A.M.E Zion Church and the nation over the years.

He described the relationship as impactful and hoped it would continue.

“This impactful partnership between the church and Ghana has fostered leadership development and heritage preservation while advancing shared goals of faith and progress,” Bishop Moore added.

Legacy

The Bishop of the Piedmont Episcopal District, Bishop Darryl Starnes, commended Bishop Dogbe on his impact so far as the President of the church’s Board of Bishops.

He also commended the church’s contribution to education and social development in Ghana.

“As the church looks to the future, we must remain committed to advancing education, social development and spiritual leadership. This is a catalyst for change and lasting impact,” Bishop Starnes added.
