Nkwanta North Assembly makes progress
Several key infrastructural projects have been completed or are nearing completion across the Nkwanta North District in the Oti Region.
The projects, funded through the District Assembly Common Fund (DACF), the MP’s Common Fund, and other intervention programmes, span education, health, water and sanitation, and local economic development.
Delivering an address to the Assemmbly after a tour of some of the projects, the District Chief Executive for Nkwanta North, Isaiah Kudjo Dordoe, said in the education sector, the Assembly had completed several inherited projects, including a four-unit staff bungalow, a three-unit pavilion classroom block for Progressive Girls at Bisignando at Kpassa and a classroom block at Gbango-Akur.
Mr Dordoe said the construction of a two-unit kindergarten block with an office and store at Shalom and Agape was also 95 per cent complete, while a six-unit classroom block with ancillary facilities at the same school had reached 90 per cent completion.
He said another three-unit classroom block at Obunja D/A School was 70 per cent complete, a similar project at Lakpor Junior High School, funded through the MP’s Common Fund, was 40 per cent complete, while a three-unit classroom block with sanitation facilities at Korni JHS had reached 80 per cent completion.

Mr Dordoe said the Assembly had also rehabilitated 20 boreholes in selected communities while all 10 refuse containers procured under the DACF had been delivered to augment efforts at improving the sanitary situation in the district.
Under the Gulf of Guinea Northern Regions Social Cohesion (SOCO) Project, the DCE said several interventions aimed at improving livelihoods and connectivity were ongoing.
Mr Dordoe further indicated that storage facilities and land preparation works at the Kpassa Market, as well as a six-seater place of convenience at the Damanko New Market, had been completed.
Roads
Mr Dordoe said road works on the Pibila-Ugando feeder road were 98 per cent complete, while culvert construction on the Koni–Damanko road stands at 70 per cent completion, adding that the completion would open up the area and boost socio-economic activities.
The DCE said work on a 200-metre fence wall around the Kpassa Sports Complex was currently 96 per cent complete, with the rehabilitation of the Kpassa Market fence wall also on course.
Mr Dordoe said several projects funded under the District Development Facility (DDF), including a slaughterhouse complex with offices, a mechanised borehole and a gari processing shed at Kamanchu, were all ongoing, adding that Damanko and Tinjase Area Councils had also been renovated and furnished using Internally Generated Funds (IGF) to improve local administration.
Transparency and accountability
Mr Dordoe said the progress made reflected the Assembly’s commitment to improving infrastructure and essential services across the district.
He acknowledged that some projects required close monitoring to ensure timely completion but gave residents the assurance that the Assembly remained committed to transparency, accountability, and the delivery of projects that address the needs of the people.
