Rotary Club of Accra Ridge organises free health screening in Kwahu

The Rotary Club of Accra Ridge has organised a free health screening for residents of Kotoso in the Kwahu South Municipality of the Eastern Region.

About 800 residents from Kotoso, Zekorpe, Asempaneye, Tokrom, Hyewohoden and parts of the Kwahu Ridge area were screened for malaria, diabetes, hypertension, skin conditions, intestinal worms and diarrhoeal diseases.

The two-day medical outreach, held last weekend, marked the fourth edition of the club’s annual health programme.

The exercise was carried out in collaboration with medical professionals from Accra, with support from the Kwahu East and Kwahu South Health directorates.

Exercise

In addition to consultations and treatment, 255 residents were enrolled onto the National Health Insurance Scheme (NHIS), securing access to basic healthcare beyond the outreach.

Beneficiaries were screened and given free medication, while those identified with complications were referred to appropriate health facilities for further diagnosis and care.

The outreach was held on the theme: “Uniting for Good — One Community at a Time.”

The programme received sponsorship from the CAGL Global Company Ltd, GOIL Company Ltd, McDan Group, Corporate Intelligence Bureau, XpressGas Ltd, Tobinco Pharmaceuticals Ltd, Halkom Pharmacy Ltd and Alpha Pharma Unique Ltd.

Other supporters included Voltron Jemen Ltd, Atlas Pharmacy Ltd, Q-Capital Microfinance, Kinapharma Ltd, Adimed Pharmacy, A.K. Bannerman-William & Co., Nii Plants Car Rental, PPAG, InvestEye Capital Partners Ltd, Freedom Hills Hotel, Ink & Thread, Cling Events Ghana, Synergy Facilities and several individuals.

Rationale

The President of the club, Oppong Agyare Agyeman-Anane, said the screening was aimed at bringing quality healthcare to the doorsteps of residents.

He reaffirmed the club’s commitment to community service by delivering free healthcare to residents of Kotoso and surrounding communities in the Kwahu East District.

He underscored the club’s mission of service, saying “this outreach is a reminder that good health should not be a privilege but a right.

With the support of our partners and sponsors, we will continue to extend healthcare to communities such as Kotoso and ensure that Rotary’s presence is felt where it matters most.”

The Past President of the club, Yaa Ohenewaa Nkrumah, who has coordinated the initiative since its inception, expressed appreciation to the doctors, nurses, pharmacists and district health officers who have supported the programme over the years.

The Lead Physician for the exercise, Dr Alex Menka, stressed the importance of regular medical check-ups to know people's health status.

He emphasised that the initiative was designed to bridge critical healthcare gaps for vulnerable families.
