Books abound on prayer and Strategic Words of Prayer by David O Tawiah presents an angle of a spiritual exercise that can never be exhaustive.
David O Tawiah, a procurement and supply chain management professional and also a reverend minister, passionate about his service in God’s vineyard, presents an angle of prayer foundational to the exercise of it: Strategic words.
In three chapters, The Word Strategy and Strategic Words of Prayer; Strategic Levels of Prayer and finally, Strategic Words of Prayer with 1,747 prayer points that makes the final chapter, David O Tawiah endeavours to impress on readers the importance of prayer wording and to also tease out prayers from the Bible for readers’ direction.
David O Tawiah in his introduction sets out his rational for the book, emphasising the importance of words used in prayer.
For him, “words matter immensely” and to pray always and with all kinds of prayer, as the Word of God directs Christians, “we need to saturate ourselves with God’s Word. We must pray through the Word, in the Word, and by the Word.”
Strategic Words of Prayer, by the author, is the use of incisive words (in this case the Word of God), in prayer to realise results.
An acknowledgement, recognising God’s enablement, gives special mention to those supporting him in the writing of the book, while an endorsement section has some reverend ministers endorsing the material.
An epilogue continues the author’s thanksgiving to God, while a reference page at the end of the book directs readers to biblical stories and chapters used.
Chapter
In his first chapter, David O Tawiah defines strategy (the tactics used in achieving a goal) and strategic words of prayer (the understood and utilised Word of God) in prayer.
The chapter is replete with biblical examples of strategic prayers, declarations and prayers for readers.
In chapter two, the author shares ideas about all dimensions that prayer ought to be made: in business and indeed all endeavours of life.
He has a sub-theme in this chapter admonishing readers to fill the clouds with prayer!
The final chapter, consisting of his 1,747 prayer points, shares prayer patterns and experiences across the old and new testaments of the Bible.
In this chapter, we have a first set of prayers on devotion to God, enablement and empowerment by the Holy Spirit in prayer, forgiveness and the fulfillment of prophecy over the reader’s life and the strengthening of faith.
It is mix bag, general prayer points.
The next set of points is themed Stand With the Ephesians in Prayer, with readers subsequently delving into the next set of points themed Pray With Ezekiel: The Priest and Prophet of the Lord.
The next sets of prayer points are themed, Praying With the Seer, Prophet and the Judge Samuel; with Pray with David and the Psalms; Praying With Moses, Joshua and Various Men of Old; Pray With the Acts of the Apostles of Jesus Christ; Join Job In Prayer; Pray With the Revelation of Jesus Christ & Apostle John; Pray with Zachariah; Pray with the Kings and Chronicles all follow sequentially.
Strategic Words of Prayer by David O Tawiah is replete with prayer points for all general and specific prayers.
It can be safely concluded that the author has done the labourious task of distilling all the words in scripture as prayer points for all circumstances.
Critique
However, Strategic Words of Prayer could do with better editing, because of the grammatical errors that disrupt reading.
Such, disrupt readers enjoyment of the book and processing of the ideas, resulting in readers pausing to go over and over sentences to decipher the author’s meaning.
Additionally, simple punctuations are mixed up in the book.
For instance, sentences are replete with hyphens, where dashes ought to have been used.
Another limiting factor of the book is the manner in which his prayer points are presented with no order.
Prayer points of the New and Old Testaments, are presented all together.
If it were presented in defined sections, in expanded chapters, readers would be greatly helped when desiring to quickly reference particular prayer points.
Some prayer points have no reference at all and seem to be general points; these should be organised under a separate chapter.
Generally, the ideas are germaine.
