Sod cut for Nwodua 6-unit classroom block
The sod has been cut for the construction of a six-unit classroom block for the Nwodua Basic School in the Kumbungu District in the Northern Region.
This seeks to enhance quality teaching and learning in the community.
The facility is made up of a teachers’ common hall, an Information Communications and Technology (ICT) centre and other ancillary facilities.
It is estimated to cost GH¢1,316,120 and is being constructed by the Centre for Active Learning and Integrated Development (CALID), with funding from the Embassy of Japan in Ghana under the Grant Assistance for Grassroots Human Security Projects (GGHSP).
Quality education
At a brief ceremony to break the ground for the construction, the Executive Director of CALID, Mohammed Awal Sumani Bapio, said the project sought to improve access to quality education in the community.
He indicated that many children were dropping out of school due to the dilapidated state of existing classrooms, adding that the new facility would reverse this trend and provide a more conducive learning environment.
"As part of the collaboration, traditional authorities in Nwodua donated land for the project, while the Kumbungu District Assembly will provide additional facilities.
“The Ghana Education Service and other stakeholders will also supply teachers and ICT equipment to support effective teaching and learning," he added.
Community support
The Kumbungu District Director of Education, Yahaya Sulemana, lauded the NGO for initiating the intervention, saying that it would go a long way to enhance educational outcomes in the district.
He expressed the hope that the facility would inspire children to take a greater interest in their studies and prepare them for a brighter future.
Mr Sulemana further urged community members to support and protect the project to ensure its smooth completion.
