Ablekuma: man posing as fetish priest arrested with fake dollars and unlicensed gun
The Ghana Police Service has arrested a man in Ablekuma, Greater Accra Region, for allegedly possessing counterfeit foreign currency and an unlicensed firearm.
The suspect, identified as Josiah Elorm Kwame Amezado, was apprehended by the National Operations Directorate Surveillance Unit following intelligence reports linking him to criminal activities in the area, the Police Service announced on Thursday, January 23, 2026.
According to a statement posted on its social media page, the Police said Amezado had been presenting himself as a fetish priest and was reportedly involved in activities that posed a security risk to residents.
A search of the suspect’s room uncovered several items, including quantities of US dollar notes in one-hundred-dollar denominations suspected to be counterfeit, a pair of handcuffs, a black vest, a Kuzey A100 blank pistol, and fifty-eight 9mm blank rounds of ammunition.
The Police Service stated that investigations are ongoing to verify the authenticity of the currency and to establish the circumstances surrounding the possession of the firearm and other items recovered from Amezado.
Amezado is currently in police custody and is assisting officers with investigations, the statement added.
