Nsawam-Adoagyiri dynamite explosion victims get LEAP cash
The Ministry of Gender, Children and Social Protection has disbursed emergency Livelihood Empowerment Against Poverty (LEAP) cash grant of GH¢196,500.00 to victims of the dynamite explosion at Nsawam-Adoagyiri in the Eastern Region.
A total of six hundred and fifty-five (655) affected households benefited from the grant with each household receiving GH¢300.00.
Speaking to the media at the final payment to the victims on Wednesday, the Deputy Minister of the ministry, Mrs Dela Sowah, said each household received GH¢100.00 per month for three months.
She, however, said those who needed to be continuously on the programme would be registered later.
In addition, she said victims whose National Health Insurance Scheme (NHIS) cards got missing during the disaster would be freely registered onto the scheme again by the ministry.
Mrs Sowah further stated that victims who qualified for LEAP but were not on the NHIS would also be registered for free.
Data collection
The acting Director of Social Protection of the ministry, Mr Richard Adjetey, said over 2000 victims were registered during a week-long exercise.
He said the data collection process began on Tuesday, January, 19, 2016, adding that the ministry scaled down the data collected by NADMO from affected individuals to 665 affected households.
He explained that a household comprised members of the same family unit sharing a common income or expenditure.
The grant was transfered to the victims’ e-Zwich account, which was provided by the gender ministry.
The beneficiaries thanked President Mahama for the gesture.
