The Chief Nursing Officer of the Ghana Health Service, Mr George Kumi Kyeremeh, who gave the advice, said the non-adherence to the ethics posed a great challenge to the integrity of the profession.

Speaking at the graduation ceremony of the Health Concern Ghana Clinical Training School in Accra, he indicated that the foundation of the profession, which include, love, humility, compassion and affection, was gradually eroding due to the attitude of some health professionals and urged the graduates to distinguish themselves to save the reputation of the nursing profession.

“Without these core values our care becomes mechanical, tasteless and ineffective”, Mr Kumi Kyeremeh said.

The School

Health Concern Ghana is an internationally recognised nursing education training school in Ghana.

Established in 2004, the school has trained over 1000 highly competent nurses who work in both the private and public health care sectors in Ghana and abroad.

Certificates were awarded to 446 graduates, out of which 309 were health assistants and the remaining 137 trained for the  health care certificate 1.

Under the theme, “A passion for caring,” the Principal of Health Concern Ghana, Mrs Mary Aboagye, urged the graduates to be passionate while performing their duties.

According to her, their chosen profession was very challenging and only passion would propel them to provide excellent care, even in difficult situations.

She also advised them to be observant and be committed to saving lives, adding that they had been well equipped to face all the challenges in the job market.

For her part, the guest Speaker for the occasion, Professor Olivia Kwapong of the Institute of Continuing and Distance Education of University of Ghana, encouraged the graduates to come up with innovative ideas to help develop the health sector of the country.

“Do not wait to be employed by the government or private organisations; start something on your own. Great things started as someone’s idea so nurse your ideas to achieve greatness,” she said.

Prof. Kwapong again called on them to constantly improve their skills to meet the demands of the job market.
