Presbyterian Church Commissions 42 Ministerial Probationers

Forty-Two ministerial probationers of the Presbyterian Church of Ghana (PCG) have been commissioned for ministerial duties.

The probationers, drawn from almost all the presbyteries in Ghana and North America and Australia, attended a three-year course at the Ramseyer Training Centre at Abetifi in the Eastern Region.

They will be engaged in field work for two years after which they will be ordained subject to satisfactory performance.

The commissioning ceremony took place at the Ramseyer Congregation Centre at Abetifi and was conducted by the Moderator of the General Assembly of the PCG, Rt Reverend Professor Joseph Obiri Yeboah Mante, and assisted by the Clerk of the PCG, Reverend Dr Samuel Ayete-Nyampong.

Christian discipline

Rt. Rev. Prof. Mante urged the commissioned ministers to be stewards of the resources God provides and maintain Christian discipline in their respective congregations.

The moderator also advised them to set good examples for the congregation and warned that the PCG would not tolerate bad ministers in its fold.

“You are to set good examples and make sacrifices but not to exploit the congregation,” he said while criticising men of God who took advantage of the vulnerable and demanded money before praying for them.

Sermon

In a sermon based on the book of Luke, the Chairperson of the North America-Australia Presbytery, Rev. Herbert Anim-Oppong, urged the newly commissioned ministers to be mindful of the onerous responsibility placed on them, adding that they could only be successful if they deepened their relationship with God.

Rev. Asare assures

Rev. Samuel Ofori Asare, who spoke on behalf of the commissioned ministers, gave an assurance that they would help to win more souls and plant more churches for the PCG.

He thanked the Moderator, Clerk and the entire clergy and congregation of the PCG, as well as spouses of the commissioned ministers, for their support.
