Delay in result declaration by EC fueling unnecessary tension - Asiedu Nketia

The National Democratic Congress (NDC) has raised concern over the delay in announcing the results of Saturday's general elections, a situation they say is fueling tensions and contributing to isolated incidents of violence across the country.

In a press briefing on Sunday, December 8, NDC National Chairman Johnson Asiedu Nketia, popularly known as "General Mosquito", expressed growing concerns about the Electoral Commission’s (EC) failure to promptly declare the election outcomes.

Mr Asiedu Nketia said the delay in releasing the results is creating a dangerous environment, with misinformation and unrest spreading among the public.

The party leader warned that frustrations, particularly among young NDC supporters, are mounting and could further escalate if the results are not made available soon.

He called on the EC to urgently fulfill its responsibility, noting that both the NDC and the New Patriotic Party (NPP) have already completed their independent collation of the results.

"The two key players [NPP and NDC] have produced our results, yet the EC is dragging its feet to announce them," Asiedu Nketia said. "This delay is causing anxiety and restlessness."

He further pointed out that the EC’s inaction is fueling unnecessary tension, urging the commission to act swiftly to prevent further violence.

"Our agents are still waiting across the country, and because of this delay, the youth have started reacting, which is a dangerous sign," he added.

The NDC's call for a faster declaration of the results comes amid rising frustrations among supporters, who are demanding greater clarity and transparency from the EC.

The party believes that the prompt release of the official results is crucial to maintaining peace and stability in the country following the elections.
