He said the time had come for leaders of the economy to embrace a positive approach and attitude to change by working together to resist all forms of corrupt practices engulfing the nation.

Rt Rev. Martey made this known at the first ever Youth Leadership and Mentorship Summit of the African Forum on Religious Governance (AFREG) - Ghana in Accra.

The two-day summit was on the theme: "Developing Transformational Young Leadership from Africa to Impact the world -One Country At A Time".

According to him, Africa, for that matter Ghana, had been blessed with enough resources including gold, fertile land and oil, but was quick to mention that most of these resources had not been managed well, resulting in high rate of unemployment among the youth and corruption both in the public and the private sectors of the economy.

The moderator condemned several corrupt practices being practiced by some government officials  and called for an end to such practices.

Rt Rev. Prof. Emeritus Martey was of the view that Ghana must be governed by people with integrity and not people who have selfish mentality and who aspire to acquire every form of wealth within a short period of time.

He further said that Christians with integrity should take up political leadership so that they would be able to provide quality and effective roles in the governance system of the country.

He urged the government to partner the various religious bodies to ensure that the country’s resources were put to good use for the good of all, especially the youth.

The Vice Chairman, AFREG-Ghana, Prof. Paul Buatsi, said that the organisation aimed at promoting tolerance and inter religious dependency, building a movement of African leaders of integrity who were committed to transforming Africa into a first world continent.

The President of AFREG Ghana Youth, Dr Sodzi Sodzi-Tettey, on his part, said that leadership was about influence and achievement of goals by working in their spheres of influence through acts of leadership.

He said Christians must exhibit maturity through what they said and did.

He also added that christians should contest political positions including assembly members, students representative council positions and members of parliament so that they would have the platform to show integrity and effectiveness.
