PNC to rebrand for 2028 elections — National Chairman

The People’s National Convention (PNC) has renewed its commitment to rebranding, repackaging and marketing the party.

That, it said, would enable it to position the PNC to win the 2028 election.

The National Chairman of the PNC, Sampson Asaki Awingobit, stated that while addressing the opening session of the National Executive Meeting (NEC) of the PNC, at Abesim, near Sunyani, last Saturday.

The leadership of the party, including the leader of the PNC, Bernard Mornah, and national and regional executives of the party, attended the day’s NEC meeting.

The PNC’s NEC meeting also reviewed internal strategies for strengthening the party’s grassroots base and organisational structure ahead of future elections.

Re-organisation

Mr Awingobit said as part of its re-organisation plans, the leadership of the party would soon embark on regional tours to interact with the executives, identify and tackle emerging challenges confronting the PNC proactively.

“From here we are also going to undertake tours to the various major media houses in Accra to get space and contribute to national discourses, and by doing so we will be building our great party as well,” he said.

He said the leadership of the party had decided to hold the NEC meetings at the regional levels to make the party more attractive, build and strengthen its support base at the constituency and grassroots levels.

Mr Awingobit tasked the regional executives to also do more and build relationships with the various media houses and local FM stations as well, and called on the media to give the PNC the required space to contribute to their discussions.

President Mahama

Mr Awingobit commended President John Dramani Mahama for his boldness in highlighting the plight of Africa at the 80th Session of the UN General Assembly (UNGA 80) in New York, United States.

The National Chairman of the PNC said the President’s boldness in telling the story of Africa to the world leaders remained exceptional and, therefore, deserved commendation.

“We are strongly behind President Mahama, and we appreciate how he is making Africa proud at the ongoing discourses at the UNGA 80,” he stated.

“In fact, President Mahama is really making Ghana and Africa proud and excellent contributions to the ongoing discussions clearly show that he is sensitive and understands the plight and myriad of Africa challenges,” Mr Awimgobet stated.

On his part, Mr Mornah announced a roadmap for renewing the party’s internal leadership, announcing that its constituency and regional primaries would be held by the end of 2026, while the National Delegates Congress is scheduled for 2027 for the election of new national officers and the party’s flagbearer.

He appealed for unity within the PNC and proposed that all Nkrumahist-inclined parties unite behind a single, formidable front ahead of the 2028 general elections.

The National Second Vice-Chairman, Sampson Alanyina Sampana, in a welcome address, said the party highly appreciated the hard work of the national leadership.

He said holding the NEC meetings at the regional levels was a clear indication that the leadership of the PNC remained committed to building and strengthening the party’s local support base.  — GNA.
