The aspirant, Kwaku Manu, was said to have attacked Electoral Commission officials and vandalized a ballot box, which already contained votes at the KCC School in North Patasi near South Suntreso. He was subsequently arrested by the police and locked up.

Graphic Online gathered that there was a mistake on the ballot paper with regards to the spelling of the candidate’s name and that instead of “Kwaku Manu”, it was “Kwame Manu” which had been indicated against the aspirant’s photograph.

Manu was said to have complained to the Electoral Officers about the wrong spelling of his name and he was assured it was going to be corrected.

But since he was not happy with the explanation, at about 12:30 pm he stormed the polling station, kicked a ballot box which already contained votes and stepped on the box.

Police officers at the polling station immediately grabbed him and sent him to cells at the Sofoline police station where he spent two nights behind bars.

He was arraigned in court on Thursday and later granted bail.

At the end of the polls, Akwasi Appiah beat the incumbent Moses Kyei (Owura Amo). Appiah polled 1088 votes as against 685 by Kyei.

Other contestants Kwaku Manu polled 250, Reinhard Oppong 14, Sarkodie Nuamah 15 and Afam Joseph, 45. There were 25 rejected ballots.
