Injured Toure out of Real clash
Yaya Toure is out of Manchester City's Champions League semi-final clash with Real Madrid this evening.
Toure suffered a muscle injury in City's 4-0 win over Stoke last Saturday and has not recovered sufficiently to play in this evening's first leg.
City boss Manuel Pellegrini confirmed Toure's enforced absence, and put his faith in Fernando and Fernandinho, who will anchor the midfield.
Pellegrini said: “I think Yaya is going to be out, he has not recovered from the muscle injury.
City skipper Vincent Kompany declared himself 100 per cent fit for the showdown, despite having just returned from a month-long injury lay-off.
Kompany, left out of the win against Stoke as a precaution, said:
“I'm 100 per cent. Everything went well. As always, unfortunately when you are injured, you have to work a lot harder than the rest and that's what I did.
"It's massive [the Real Madrid game]. I have been through a very long process with this team, so playing for it in itself is something good, but you want to go to the next stage.
"It's great to face Real Madrid and to see how far you have come after all these years."
Asked how City plan to thwart Real's star man Cristiano Ronaldo, Kompany said:
"It's one of those things. If you play Real Madrid or Barcelona you know you're going to be asked a question about Ronaldo or Messi and the answer is always the same. — PAS
