Wheelchair team call for support: For Rio Olympics qualifiers

With the Paralympic Games set to commence in about six months Ghana’s wheelchair team could miss out in the Games unless they immediately raise cash to participate in the qualifiers.

The two main wheelchair athletes, Botsyo Nkegbe and Maclean Atsu Dzidzienyo, have had a difficult time preparing for the competition and already, the Arizona Disabled Sports (AZDS) have invited the Ghanaian duo to the 2016 Desert Challenge, but financial constraint is preventing them.

Stephen Appiah begins Peace Ambassador role

Former Black Stars captain, Stephen Appiah last Saturday  donated cash and  football equipment to participants and spectators at the maiden edition of the Hot Sports Mama Vits Gala held at the Indafa Park in Accra.

The programme, which forms part of Appiah’s role as the National Peace Ambassador,  saw him performing the ceremonial kick-off at the 24-team competition, which attracted a large number of football fans.

Internationally certified boxing coach instructor, Ofori Asare, has attributed  Ghana’s inability  to produce world class boxers in recent times to the failure of amateur coaches to build their capacity more meaningfully.

Bemoaning the failure of  amateur coaches in Ghana to upgrade their knowledge and expertise in the sport during an interview with Daily Graphic, Ofori Asare said  the  trend had been thwarting the efforts of the country in producing quality boxers and coaches  to sustain the interest of the sport.
