Millennium Marathon gears up for Saturday

After months of anticipation and successful regional road tours, the maiden edition of the Millennium Marathon is set to take place on Saturday in Accra with an estimated 15,000 participants. Grant: I won’t shut door on locals

Black Stars coach, Avram Grant, has distanced himself from comments his agent made this week about the poor quality of players in the First Capital Plus League, assuring members of the Black Stars Management Committee that the national team is open to all players whether local or foreign.

The Israeli trainer reportedly lauded the level of talent in the Ghanaian, league during crunch talks with the Black Stars Management Committee in Accra yesterday, after his representative, Saif Rubie, had suggested that the quality of the league would rule-out local-based players from the national team.

MTN FA Cup title holders, Kumasi Asante Kotoko, have declared ‘war’ on Medeama in Sunday’s final, saying the trophy means ‘everything to the club’ after losing the league title.

With a huge burden on their heads to appease their disappointed fans, Kotoko now have to win the FA Cup to win to guarantee them qualification to the CAF Confederation Cup competition.

The longest-serving chairman of the Premier League Board (PLB), Mr Welbeck Yaw Abra-Appiah, has decided to drop his tools at the end of the season after a 10-year illustrous reign at the helm of Ghana’s top-flight league.

Breaking the sweet-sour news to the Graphic Sports in an interview, Mr Abra-Appiah said he had paid his dues to Ghana Football and that it was time to bow out and hand over the baton to the younger generation to continue.

The retired Bank Manager, football administrator and businessman believes after chalking many successes in the Premier League under his watch, there cannot be a better time to call it a day than now when the cheers are loudest.
