Dwarfs are not our problem • League title is our target — Gnagne

Accra Hearts of Oak’s Robin Gnagne says the team’s technical handlers led by Kenichi Yatsuhashi deserve a lot of credit for the Phobians’ improved form and added that their  impressive start to the Premier League was a product of hard work, determination and a new sense of self-belief by the players.

The defender, who played a key role in the team’s surprising 2-0 victory over Medeama at Tarkwa last Sunday, says they are very determined to add Ebusua Dwarfs to their list of victims when the two sides clash in Cape Coast.

A confident Gnagne told the Graphic Sports at the team’s training yesterday at the Ajax Park at Legon that coach Kenichi had introduced a new wind of confidence in camp and had taught the players to be hungry for success. That motivation and confidence are driving the Phobians’ impressive performance lately as they aim at ending their title drought by winning the Premier League this season.

“This Sunday’s match is a win for us although it will be a tough game. Dwarfs haven’t won any of their matches so you can expect some sort of resistance from them, but we will win. Our target is to win this league and we are determined to make it happen,” he told the Graphic Sports.

For Gnagne, healthy competition among players, each working hard to catch the attention of the coach, is a contributory factor to their success so far.

The Ivorian admitted he was amazed at the sudden transformation of the team, commending the Japanese-American coach for building a solid squad within a short period.

“Every coach has his qualities but I think that Kenichi is a fantastic coach. He teaches us a lot of things and sometimes when training is over you still want to do more. You know our team was having a lot of challenges last season, but now we have a solid team, thanks to our coach.

“Another thing is that he motivates us to be hungry for success so we are going for it,” he said.

Gnagne, whose contract with the Phobians runs out at the end of the season, disclosed that he would only leave Hearts provided his employers could secure an opportunity for him to play abroad.

“From Hearts I won’t play for any local club again. I want to play abroad for Barcelona because that’s my club.”
