Kumasi Asante Kotoko

Revenge time for Kotoko!

Kumasi Asante Kotoko, still smarting from their 0-2 loss to WAFA at Sogakope two weeks ago, will seek to get their Premier League campaign off well with a victory against Medeama SC at the Baba Yara stadium on Sunday.

Kotoko go into the game with their ego bruised but face a difficult task against Medeama, the side that denied them FA Cup glory last year. Also seeking to kickstart their campaign in Kumasi after two straight losses.

For the Porcupine Warriors, losing before their home fans is unthinkable as it could make their title aspirations even more difficult — they have an outstanding clash against AshantiGold — as their opponents are also seeking to get back to winning ways. After winning the MTN FA Cup in addition to the FA Super Cup, Medeama were touted as the team to beat this season, but Coach Tom Strand and his charges surprisingly lost ground in their first two matches, losing 1-2 to Ashgold and 0-2 to Hearts of Oak last Sunday.

And with arch-rival Hearts enjoying a good start, pressure is beginning to mount on Duncan and his players to call Medeama’s bluff and avenge their 1-2 loss in the FA Cup final last August.

However, Swedish coach Strand is also determined to turn things around for the Tarkwa-based side who drew twice against the Porcupine Warriors in the league last season, even though they had not beaten the Oseikrom lads in six previous encounters before their FA Cup final clash.

Strand will look up to trusted players such as Akwasi Donsu, Enoch Atta Adjei, Malik Akowuah and his skipper Muntari Tagoe to upset the home side.

In Cape Coast, Coach J.E. Sarpong’s job could be on the line as his Ebusua Dwarfs side, who have suffered two successive losses, face in-form Hearts who have found their rhythm and are confident they would maintain their winning run at the Robert Mensah stadium.

Dwarfs, like Medeama SC and Kotoko, are languishing at the bottom of the league log after two games and with their backs against the wall, veteran Sarpong is expected to plot their turnaround with a defeat of Hearts.

Following their elimination from the CAF Champions League, defending champions Ashgold turn their focus on the domestic competition as they welcome Berekum Chelsea to their favourite Obuasi Len Clay Stadium in what is expected to be a very crunch encounter.

The Ameyaw Ekumfi park at Techiman is expected to burst at the seams when new entrants Techiman City FC host Dormaa-Ahenkro-based Aduana Stars in what many pundits have described as a potentially tough local derby.

In the other fixtures, league leaders All Stars welcome Liberty Professionals to the Wa Park, WAFA and Hasaacas clash at Sogakope while Tema-based Inter Allies host  high flying Dreams FC at the Tema Park.
