Ghana starts ITTF-Africa Championships campaign with dominant wins in Tunisia

Team Ghana began their 2025 International Table Tennis Federation's (ITTF)-Africa Championships on a winning note, recording impressive victories in the women’s, men’s, and mixed doubles events in Rades, Tunisia.

In the Women’s Singles Round of 64, Ghana’s Cynthia Kwabi produced a dominant performance to defeat Rwanda’s Mbabazi Twizerane 4–1 (11–6, 11–6, 11–8, 9–11, 11–8). 

Kwabi’s steady forehand play and composure under pressure secured Ghana’s first women’s singles victory of the tournament.

In the Men’s Singles Round of 128, James Marfo powered past South Africa’s Terrence Mathole in a commanding 4–1 display (11–8, 10–12, 12–10, 11–8, 11–4). 

Marfo showed consistency and control throughout the match, recovering quickly after dropping the second game to secure a convincing win and advance to the next round.

Ghana’s momentum continued in the Mixed Doubles Round of 64, where James Marfo teamed up with Eva Adom-Amankwaa to defeat Uganda’s Joshua Magaya and Judith Nangonzi 3–2 (9–11, 11–6, 9–11, 11–5, 11–8).

The Ghanaian duo displayed strong chemistry and fighting spirit, overturning an early deficit to seal the match in five games.

The victories mark a promising start for Ghana’s campaign in Rades, as the team looks to build on the positive results and make deeper runs in the championship’s subsequent stages.
