Ghana qualify for AFCON 2019
Ghana have qualified for the 2019 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) after the Confederation of African Football (CAF) disqualified Sierra Leone from the qualifiers.
The Black Stars’ qualification has been validated following CAF confirmation of Sierra Leone’s exclusion from the Group F qualifiers.
This decision has enabled the Black Stars a smooth walkover to Africa’s prestigious football tournament.
CAF announced the decision on its website yesterday stating that: “Sierra Leone disqualified from Total AFCON 2019 qualifiers”.
Ghana currently lie second position with six points, one point behind Kenya who have seven points at the top of the table.
The decision leaves Ethiopia with only a point as they lost the three points they earned from their win over the Leone Stars of Sierra Leone in September.
The Black Stars defeated Ethiopia 5-0 and 2-0 in Kumasi and Addis Ababa respectively, while Kenya won 3-0 against Ethiopia and drew 0-0 in the second leg.
They also beat Ghana 1-0 at the MISC Kasarani Stadium in Nairobi, Kenya.
Ghana will hope to top the group when they meet current group leaders Kenya in Ghana for the final qualifier on March 22 next year.
Ghana will join teams such as Kenya, Tunisia, Egypt, Senegal, Nigeria, Algeria, Morocco, Mali, Guinea, Uganda, Cote d’Ivoire, Mauritania, Madagascar who have already qualified for the 32nd AFCON
