Already the Newspapers Department have vouched to annex the overall trophy and as a result pitched camp at a “secret” location at Aburi in the Eastern region to train for the games.

The participating teams are Technical, Newspapers, Marketing, Human Resource and Administration, Audit and Finance, Graphic Packaging (GPak) and MD's Office.

The ‘secret’ training by the Newspapers Department began with a climb of the Aburi mountain from Ayi Mensah to Peduase on Saturday morning.

The walk and training session was led by the Editor of the Daily Graphic, Mr Ransford Tetteh. Other leading members were Mr Kobby Asmah, Political Editor and Madam Rosemary Ardayfio of the Sub Desk.

The games are in the memory of the late Samuel Konadu, formerly of the Transport Unit, who passed away on the day of the maiden even while on his way to Kumasi to deliver newspapers.

Message from Ken

The Managing Director of GCGL, Mr Kenneth Ashigbey has confirmed the company’s commitment to give cash prizes to individual winners in the various competitions in the games.

He has, therefore called on all staff to come out in their numbers and compete for departmental and individual awards.

He was quick to add that the cash prizes alone should not be the motivation for participation because it was not the most important but rather the good feeling the day would bring outside the busy work schedule.

“The GCGL is a very big institution with different departments and office locations, different ranks and positions, but the special day breaks all occupational barriers,” he said.

He therefore called on all to endeavor to participate with a mind of strengthening team work.

Remember fallen heroes

Sounding very appreciative of the fallen heroes and heroines of the company, Mr Ashigbey said the games as always would be used to remember and appreciate Samuel Konadu, whose death he described as the highest sacrifice any worker could make in the line of duty.IMG 0773

Comprehensive participation

The MD expressed the hope that staff members would participate in their numbers “so we could celebrate ourselves and come together for a healthy sport rivalry.”

That, he said would also help to improve the health of the workforce, adding that a healthy workforce was any company’s valuable asset.

Wishing all competitors well, he promised to beat all his competitors at their own game, particularly those hwo were bale to beat him in 2014.
