National shooting team poised for Tokyo Olympics

The Ghana National Rifle Association (GNRA) has rolled out a five-year development plan aimed at winning medals at the Tokyo Olympic Games in 2020.

The President of the GNRA, Cillian George Walsh, who announced this, said  the GNRA was also making adequate preparations to enable the national shooting team (Black Snipers) to participate in the Commonwealth Games in 2018.

In an interview with the Daily Graphic, Mr Walsh noted "Our main focus is the Tokyo Olympics in 2020, so we have rolled out a five-year plan for that.

"This will  be preceded by the Commonwealth Games in two years even though we have the opportunity of qualifying for the Rio Olympics this year. "

 

According to Mr Walsh, they were making strides  barely three years of existence, saying, in the All African Games ,one of their stars, Emmanuel Koli, finished fourth.

He said as part of their preparations this year, they would participate in  the International Shooting Sport Federation (ISSF) World Championship in Munich, Germany,  and the Rifle Pistol Shotgun World Championship, slated for Italy in March and July respectively.

 With the current membership of the association made up of 12 from the Ghana Armed Forces and four from the Diplomatic community,  Mr Walsh said they were now open to the public for registration

He thanked MTN, Solmed Alliance and  OMA Group for their financial support . He was also full of praise for the Ghana Olympic Committee (GOC) who  he said had assured to support them with $2,500 to settle a loan.
