Accra Bar Week to bring international bartenders, global brands to Ghana

Accra is set to become a hub for international bartending and hospitality talent in August as the Accra Bar Week and Accra Bar Show return with a five-day programme designed to spotlight Ghana’s growing drinks and nightlife industry.

Organised by Bordovic Concepts, the events, scheduled for August 4 to 9, will bring together international guest bartenders, bar teams, drinks brands and hospitality professionals for a series of guest shifts, cocktail experiences, masterclasses and industry networking sessions.

The Accra Bar Week, which runs from August 4 to 8, will see visiting bartenders take over some of the city’s popular bars, restaurants and lounges for special guest shifts.

Participating venues include Asana Bar & Kitchen, Sol Lounge, Bella Afrik, Bella Dolce Vita, Tribeca, Aria, Pomona, Kozo, Embar, One2One Bar at Mövenpick Ambassador Hotel, No.19 Bar & Restaurant, Tang Palace Hotel and The Churchill Lounge & Bar.

The guest shifts will offer patrons the opportunity to experience cocktails and bartending techniques from visiting professionals while creating opportunities for local bartenders and hospitality operators to interact with international counterparts.

The programme will culminate in the Accra Bar Show, scheduled for August 7 to 9 at the Mövenpick Ambassador Hotel, where industry professionals and consumers will have access to tasting sessions, product showcases, seminars and masterclasses.

The sessions will explore topics including hospitality careers, indigenous African spirits, gastronomy, collaboration and beverage innovation, with masterclasses from international and local drinks brands including Johnnie Walker, Monin, The Bitter Truth and Aphro.

Beyond its focus on cocktails, the organisers say the programme is intended to provide a platform for knowledge-sharing and collaboration between Ghanaian hospitality professionals and their international counterparts.

The initiative comes as Accra's food, drinks and nightlife scene continues to attract growing interest, with the organisers seeking to further position the capital as a destination for hospitality, entertainment and beverage experiences.
