Kwame Pianim to address University of Gold Coast Class of 2025

The University of Gold Coast (UGC) has announced that renowned economist and statesman, Mr Kwame Pianim, will deliver the Congregation Address at its 2025 graduation ceremony scheduled for Saturday, November 22, 2025.

The event, which will be held at the university’s Gold Coast Hall on Spintex Road, will see more than 650 postgraduate and professional students graduating in the presence of faculty, families and invited dignitaries.

This year’s congregation will be held on the theme “Ghana’s Economy: At the Crossroads or on the Right Path?”, a national question the university considers both urgent and reflective of the country’s current economic moment. In selecting Mr Pianim as keynote speaker, the university said it had chosen “a voice of wisdom, experience, and uncommon courage” whose decades of public service and deep understanding of Ghana’s economic history make him an ideal guide for new graduates entering national life.

Founder and Chancellor of the University of Gold Coast, Bishop Dr Gideon Titi Ofei, said Mr Pianim’s insights were expected to “leave an imprint on the minds and spirits of all graduands”, particularly at a time when the nation’s economic direction demands thoughtful leadership and moral clarity. He added that the address would not only inform but also inspire the next generation of Ghanaian professionals.

The university reaffirmed its mission to develop leaders “whose minds are sharp, whose hands are skilled, and whose hearts are anchored in integrity”, noting that inviting Mr Pianim to speak formed part of this commitment. As a Christian institution with what it describes as a national mandate, UGC said such ceremonies were “turning points” where future leaders are shaped and commissioned.

UGC expressed confidence that Mr Pianim’s participation would offer valuable guidance for the class of 2025 as they prepare to take up roles across various sectors of the economy.

The ceremony will take place at 10 a.m. at the Gold Coast Hall, where the university will formally welcome Mr Pianim to address its community and share reflections expected to resonate beyond the campus.
