The Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of the company, Dr George Sipa-Adjah Yankey, said this and added that Ghana Gas was delighted to hold the fort by delivering more than 110 million standard cubic feet of gas to fuel plants at the Aboadze power enclave of the Volta River Authority (VRA).

“We are aware of this contribution and we will continue to ensure we deliver on our mandate to push Ghana forward,” he said.

Speaking at the Health, Safety, Security and Environment Week celebration of the company at its plant site at Atuabo, Dr Yankey said the company was guided by responsible corporate governance issues that took into consideration the people and the environment in which it operated.

The programme was on the theme: “Building a Sustainable Safety Culture for Sustainable Operation.”

Dr Yankey said from its inception, the team at Ghana Gas was aware of the task ahead and the strategic role it should play to propel growth.

 Sustainability

The CEO said Ghana Gas as an industrial entity, among other industries, was working to meet the growing needs of the world, with safety as its hallmark.

“All over the world, industries and organisations that have demonstrated a proactive approach towards staff, the public and other stakeholders in terms of safety, good security practices and environmental standards have more often been associated with benefits of profit maximisation,” he stated.

According to him, with equally high occupational health standards, occupational diseases were eradicated while economic burdens of diseases were greatly reduced.

“A proactive and committed approach towards health, safety, security and environment translates into a workforce with a high productivity and ensures that employees enjoy their end-of-service benefits in good health while sharing memorable occasions with their family and friends,” he observed.

 Man-hours

Dr Yankey said the company had achieved approximately 11.26 million man-hours without a single fatality or major injury and 3.86 million man-hours without lost time injury at any level of its operations.

He said critical moments such as the tie-in and commissioning period also  passed without any incident due to strict adherence to safety.

“All these achievements were recorded with the support and collaboration of all employees, contractors, visitors and the general public to this plant,” he said.

He, therefore, urged all employees to join hands, minds and hearts to build on this great culture of health, safety, security and environmental standards that would seek to usher the company into operational excellence.

“Today, our operational phase has been remarkably described as an obvious, significant economic project to the economy of our country and it will continue for the betterment of the country,” he added.

Activities marking the week included a health screening and presentation of clean-up tools and equipment to the host communities at Atuabo.

Safety consciousness would also be created among students in surrounding communities.
