Two companies promote arts on Indece day

The management of Marina Mall, in collaboration with an Accra-based lifestyle radio station, Live FM, has mounted an arts exhibition on Independence Day, March 6, to portray the beauty of arts to patrons.

The exhibition, which lasted four days, had a number of up-and-coming artists stationed at the mall to make live paintings, which attracted a lot of patrons.

Among the artists was 27-year-old Patrick William Dodoo, a professional live artist, who told the GRAPHIC BUSINESS he could paint (portraits) within five minutes.

“I was able to make the current president’s (John Dramani Mahama’s) portrait and that of the late president’s (John E.A. Mills’) portrait in two minutes 22 seconds; something I am very proud of,” he said.

In a separate interview, the Facilities Manager of Marina Mall, Mr Ebenezer Asare, said the arts show was: “a way for us to celebrate our independence. Ghana is 57 and as a way to celebrate that we are helping up-and-coming artists to exhibit their artistic prowess to patrons of the mall.”

He stated that it was also a way to expose people to the art around them, which was often not appreciated.

“You see the guy there? He draws; he just looks at you and is actually able to draw you there and then. The patronage has been good and I think management will have to consider making it a monthly or quarterly exhibition,” he said.

He said the show was a collaboration between the mall and Live FM, adding that Photoclub was also around to add some flair to the show.

“Photoclub is also part. They will take a nice shot and use it as wallpaper or anything you want - all for free,” he added.

The Sales Manager of Live FM, Mr Raymond Smith, also said: “Art has been part of our tradition. As a station, we believe in arts and our core objective is to portray arts and lifestyle to listeners and that is exactly what they are doing with this arts show.”

The event, he said, would be a yearly event that would be done in collaboration with Marina Mall to showcase arts to the world.
