NDC energises youth wing for victory in 2016

The first-ever Volta Regional leadership conference of the Tertiary Education Institutions Network (TEIN) of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) has been organised in Ho with a call on members to strategise to achieve an ‘operation one million vote gap’ in the region.

Held on the theme: ‘Empowering TEIN for Victory in 2016’, the conference, which brought together the youth wing leaders from the 26 tertiary institutions in the region, sought to prepare them for the battle ahead in 2016.

The party bigwigs at the conference reminded the TEIN members of the party’s target of 57 per cent vote victory for President Mahama, stressing that it could only be achieved if the youth wing became vibrant and spread the messages on the policies and achievements of the government to the populace.

The speakers observed that the Volta Region was a very strategic area for the party because it is World Bank and, therefore, all hands should be on deck to claim all the parliamentary seats in the region.

Focus on achievements

The National Organiser of the party, Mr Kofi Adams, observed that TEIN was key to the success of the party and had to, therefore, be energised to be the voice of the party.

According to him, the government, though in difficult times, has a lot to show as its achievements, citing projects such as the Rattray Park in Kumasi, the ongoing construction of road networks across the country, expansion of the Kotoka International Airport, fibre optic project and water projects in Kpando and other areas in the region.

Referring to the opposition New Patriotic Party (NPP) as people with ‘termite mentality’ who destroyed development policies, Mr Adams admonished the youth wing not to be deceived or intimidated by comments that the government was not working and rather hit the ground with its achievements.

He said although the party would have a ‘sweet victory’ in the election, it called for hard work, planning and strategy.
‘We know it is not going to be an easy task, we should work hard and not allow any party to take over our enviable position, he reiterated.

NDC loss will be nightmare

A Minister of State, Mr Elvis Afriyie Ankrah, said it would be a nightmare for the party to lose its position to the NPP and called on the youth to make sacrifices for the party.

Citing several examples of former TEIN members who had climbed to the top, Mr Ankrah stated, ‘TEIN is the only platform for the youth to showcase their leadership for them to be noticed by our leaders.’

He also gave an assurance that the government would continue to do its best for the region. He disclosed that the Volta Basin oil investment was the tool the government intended to use to transform the region.
The Deputy National General Secretary of the party, Mr Koku Anyidoho, called for unity in the party since it was the only way the party could retain power.

Meanwhile, the National Youth Organiser of the party, Mr Siidi Abubakar, has said the victory of the NDC is starting with the by-election in Talensi on July 7 as a lot of efforts have been put in to win the seat.

Other speakers at the programme included the Minister of Transport, Mrs Dzifa Aku Attivor, and her deputy, Mrs Joyce Bawa Mogtari, the Deputy Minister of Tourism, Culture and Creative Arts, Madam Dzifa Gomashie, Members of Parliament for Adaklu and Ho Central, Mr Kwame Agbodza and Mr Benjamin Kpodo respectively and the Organiser of UK/Ireland branch, Mr Alexander Bediako.
