Coach of premiership debutants Dreams FC, Charles Kwabla Akonnor, says his target for the season is to fight to avoid relegation and retain their place in the premier league.

After guiding the club to the elite division as Zone Three champions in the Division One League, the former Black Stars captain says Dreams FC have modest ambitions, but hopes to build on their experience in top flight football in subsequent seasons.

“Since we are a young and inexperienced side, it will be fair to say that we will work hard to stay in the league and avoid relegation,” he said.

Ghana's Black Stars on Tuesday beat the least ranked team in Africa, Les Coelecantes of the Comoros Island, 2-0 to qualify for the group stage of the African qualifiers for the Russia 2018 FIFA World Cup.

Playing on a rainy turf at the Baba Yara Stadium in Kumasi, the Stars laboured in the first quarter of the game before man of the match, Mubarak Wakaso, broke the back of the defensive-minded visitors with a picturesque curling free kick outside the penalty area after 18 minutes.

The goal brought the over 20,000 fans on to their feet, while Jordan Ayew  added the second after a goal-mouth scrimmage to seal the deal in the 85th minute.

Mr. Herbert Mensah, President of the Ghana Rugby Football Union (GRFU), hailed Jonah Lomu as one of the Rugby’s greatest ever when the shocking news about his passing broke early this morning.

I have a hunch that this generation of Black Star players might not be able to take us to the promise land not because they lack what it takes to do so. They have an appreciable quality required for greatness but unfortunately lack the right attitude.

When was the last time we as a nation celebrated a major continental championship in the game of football? Where is the glory and pride we enjoyed and boasted of as well as the promise we looked forward to right from the seventies?

One of the continent’s most successful footballers, Abedi Ayew Pele, sits on a family tree that consists of some of the most talented footballers in the country.

His talents may not have seen him represent Ghana at the global stage but he could still be proud all his three offspring have played a part in the country’s participation at the mundial in Germany and in Brazil.
