The worst affected areas are Kalariga, Kpanvo and Vitin, where about 170 residents lost their properties to the rainstorm.

According to the Tamale South Sub-Metro Head of the National Disaster Management Organisation (NADMO), Mr Mohammed Inusah, 172 people had been displaced by the rainstorm, which also damaged 27 houses and 72 rooms in the three affected communities.

During a visit to the affected communities, the Daily Graphic observed that some of the affected people looked dejected and disturbed.

In separate interviews, they called for assistance from the authorities to alleviate their plight.

Visit/impact

At Kalariga, residents said officials from NADMO had visited the area to assess the impact of the disaster on the community but indicated that they were yet to receive assistance from the organisation.

Baba Iddi, a resident of Vitin, told the Daily Graphic  that his personal documents and belongings were destroyed by the rains.

He said currently he was living with a friend.

Mr Inusah, who led a team to the affected communities to assess the impact of the disaster, appealed to non-governmental and other benevolent organisations to come to the aid of the people.

He said the sub-metro office was preparing its report after the assessment last Saturday for onward submission to the national secretariat of NADMO in Accra.
