Ghana are through to a fifth straight FIFA U-17 Women's World Cup after back-to-back wins over Morocco in the African qualifying campaign.

The Black Maidens thrashed Morocco 6-0 at the Accra Stadium last Saturday to complete a 10-0 aggregate win, after recording a 4-0 victory in the first leg a fortnight ago.

Stars draw in Maputo

The senior national team, the Blacks Stars, last Sunday maintained their unbeaten run in the 2017 AFCON qualifiers as they held their Mozambique counterparts, the Black Mambas, to a goalless draw in Maputo.

Coach Avram Grant made four changes to the side that defeated Mozambique 3-1 in their first leg encounter at the Accra Stadium earlier last Thursday.

Nii Odartey Lamptey, a 60-year-old jockey with 45-years of horse racing experience, last Saturday emerged the winner of the Division 4A race of the “Easter Egg Challenge Cup” at the Accra Turf Club (ATC) near Ashaley Botwe in Accra.

Nii Lamptey, who rode Mr K, beat competition from seven other contenders to finish within an average time of 2.4 seconds over a distance of 1400 metres (7 furlongs) to lift the trophy at stake.

Kumasi hosts tennis rankings Saturday

Ahead of this year’s Davis Cup in June, the Ashanti Regional Tennis Federation under the parent body, the Ghana Tennis Federation, will host the second edition of the National Ranking Tournament from March 26 to April 2 to select a crack squad for the national team.

The one-week competition, which hitherto was hosted in Accra, will feature about 50 players across the country at the 4 Garrison Officers Mess tennis court in Kumasi.

Puma School of Speed rocks Accra

The maiden edition of Puma Ghana's School of Speed football competition took place yesterday with Mamprobi Liverpool thrashing Mamprobi Manchester City 6-2 at the Indafa Park in Accra.

The two teams comprised primary school pupils who are Under-12 years from the Mamprobi area who did battle over 90 minutes on a grassless pitch.

Interestingly, the eventual winners, Mamprobi Liverpool came from behind to secure victory.
