Tricky for Kotoko at Tumu : Hearts face Sarmatex threat

Football-loving fans at Tumu in the Sissala East District capital of in the Upper West Region, who have heard a lot about Kumasi Asante Kotoko over the years but have not watched the team play physically in their lifetime, will have a feel of the great club when they play Tumu-based Real 24 Hours FC at the Tumu Park tomorrow in an MTN FA Cup round of 32 fixture.

Aside their off-the-field troubles regarding the ‘stepping aside’ of Coach David Duncan, Kotoko’s clash with the Tumu side has been charactersied by a heated debate over the venue, compelling the FA Cup Committee (FACC) and the Club Licencing Board (CLB) to pass a quick judgment for Kotoko to honour the match tomorrow as scheduled.

Awudu Issaka slams Kotoko

A Former Ghanaian international, Awudu Issaka, has slammed the management of Kumasi Asante Kotoko for what he described as an unjustifiable treatment being meted out to Coach David Duncan.

Issaka, who was influential in Ghana’s gold-winning feat at the 1995 FIFA Under-17 World Cup, said asking a coach to step aside in this current era was unprofessional and, therefore, charged the management of the Porcupine Warriors to reconsider that decision.

Kumasi Asante Kotoko stirred yet another controversy this week after coming out to vehemently protest against a decision by the FA Cup Committee (FACC) to have their MTN FA Cup round of 32 match played in Tumu as originally balloted.  

As we have observed, the latest call by the Kotoko management followed hard on the heels of a similar decision by the club asking Coach David Duncan to step aside for a while due to the club’s spate of poor results in the ongoing Premier League.

Just like the Duncan saga, Kotoko’s request for a change of venue for their match against Tumu-based Division Two side Real 24 Hours FC stirred a heated debate in the media, resulting in divided opinion on the matter.

UPAC B’ball: Takoradi Poly stun Marshalls

Takoradi Polytechnic on Tuesday recorded a stunning 59-57 win over highly rated Group B opponents, Marshalls University College, in the opening game of the Rexona Universities, Polytechnics and College (UPAC) Basketball Championship at the Accra Polytechnic basketball court.

The Takoradi Polytechnic basketball team led in all the first three quarters of the game (14-12, 25-24 and 42-36) but suffered a fright in the closing stages as Marshalls staged a late comeback.

The Asantehene and Life Patron of Kumasi Asante Kotoko, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, has directed the club’s Board Chairman, Paul Adu-Gyamfi, to meet with embattled David Duncan to decide his fate, following the controversial decision by the club’s management to order the coach to step aside and hand over the technical affairs to his assistant, Michael Osei.
