After winning the girls’ 3,000 metres in a time of 10:44.22 minutes at last year’s National Schools and Colleges athletics competition in Wa, Charlotte Fordjour has set her sights on bigger goals and is working her way to becoming the dominant athlete in her field in future.

At 17 and a junior athlete, Charlotte has been motivated by her feat at the Wa championship and is looking forward to improving steadily as well as enlisting in the Ghana Police Service in the coming years as she works hard both on her academics and sporting commitments.

Security level up as PSG host Chelsea

IT’S been a long 10 weeks but this evening and tomorrow night finally see the return of the Champions League as the knockout stages begin with just 16 teams left.
Tonight, Chelsea will travel to Paris to face Prais Saint German (PSG) in what is fast becoming becoming a regular clash in the Champions League knockout round. They have met in the past two season and only away goals have seperated them then.

Elect regional officers - GHA

The Ghana Handball Association (GHA) has directed all its regional associations to elect officers ahead of its national congress next month.

A statement issued by the GHA last Friday explained that the election of regional officers would pave way for the asociation to organise its national congress, where an executive would be elected to steer the affairs of handball in Ghana for the next four years.

The statement, signed by the Secretary-General of the association, Charles Amofah, disclosed that all regional associations had already been directed to furnish the national secretariat in Accra with the dates and venues for their elections.

Platini appeal set for today

Michel Platini's appeal against his eight-year ban from all football-related activities will be heard by FIFA's Appeals Committee today.

The suspended UEFA president, 60, was banned by the world governing body's ethics committee in December, along with its president Sepp Blatter.

Both were found guilty of breaches surrounding a £1.3m ($2m) "disloyal payment" to Platini.

Blatter's appeal against his own ban is due to be heard tomorrow.

Hard win for Ashgold

Premier League Champons, Ashantigold, yesterday managed to overcome a well-rehearsed game pattern to frustrate them by Algerian side Mouloudia Olympique de Bejaia to win 1-0 in their first leg preliminary round of the CAF Champions League match at the Obuasi Len Clay Stadium.

A combination of ill luck, poor shooting and intermittent dramatising and feigning of injury by the visitors robbed Ashgold of a convincing win to make their second leg encounter in Bejaia a mere formality.

Dreams FC, Hearts to open Dawu stadium

The renovated Dawu stadium will come alive tomorrow when newly-promoted premiership side Dreams FC host Accra Hearts of Oak in a ceremonial game to officially open the facility which had been inactive as a league centre for over a decade.

Ashgold sure to beat M.O. Bejaia

The players and technical handlers of AshantiGold have been handed a big boost ahead of tomorrow’s Champions League preliminary round clash with O.M. Bejaia with the club’s management announcing an undisclosed qualification bonus, if they make it to the next round of the competition.

‘I’ll ensure Grant stays in Ghana’

Even before he is confirmed by Parliament’s Appointment Committee as the new Minister of Youth and Sports, Edwin Nii Lante Vanderpuye, seems to have sent a clear message that he intends to crack the whip in order to get things done, particularly the vexed issue of the long stay of Black Stars coach, Avram Grant, outside the country under the guise of monitoring players in Europe.

Mr Vanderpuye told Star FM in an interview last Wednesday that when confirmed, he would ensure that Grant spent a lot of time in Ghana to work with local coaches and monitor players rather than his preferred mode of operating in Europe at huge cost to the state.
