Techiman City FC have filed a stay of execution as well as an appeal against the decision by the Ethics Committee of the Ghana Football Association (GFA) to demote them for their implication in bribery scandal in the Division One League (DOL).
The next few weeks ahead of the voting day for the upcoming Executive Committee elections look crucial for Ghana Football Association (GFA) vice president, Fred Crentsil, as he and the club on whose ticket he is contesting on, Techiman City FC, race against time to have their demotion overturned.
Last Friday, Crentsil and the other candidates were cleared by the election committee to contest in the elections, but his fate has been left hanging following the Ethics Committee 's ruling to demote his club for their complexity in a bribery scandal.
Techiman City together with Wa African United, were demoted by the Ethics Committee of the GFA, charged with conniving to fix a league match in the ongoing DOL, but the president of Techiman City, Charles Kwadwo Ntim, aka Micky Charles, told the Graphic Sports that Crentsil would not be affected and he remained eligible to contest.
Just as fighting corruption in Ghana is as fruitless as chasing after the wind, so seems the case when it comes to ridding Ghana Football of bribery and match-fixing. It is next to impossiblity!
That is why I treat any attempt by the Ghana Football Association (GFA) to purge itself by way of finding scapegoats to deter others with a pinch of salt.
The latest controversy to hit Ghana Football in that regard is the outright demotion of two Division One League (DOL) clubs - Techiman City and Wa African United - for bribery and match-fixing. The GFA Ethics Committee found the two clubs guilty of conniving to influence the outcome of their 22nd week league match at Damongo.
The GFA Appeals Committee has dismissed Tema Youth’s appeal against the Disciplinary Committee's decision to dismiss their protest against Dreams FC.
The book of Ecclesiastes says everything has its season. Yes, every season has what it brings along! I think we must thank the Lord Almighty in Heaven that this turbulent season has finally come to an end. And what a season we had on hand with a lot to battle with right from the beginning to the last day.
Many are the critics who blasted the Ghana Football Association (GFA) for not doing enough to put things on a smooth line for the lovely game which is the passion of the nation. We do not have to forget that at the end of the previous season, the FA had to struggle with a court case which prevented it from even going to congress, much less going ahead to begin the new season.

A deep-seated ownership crisis has shaken the foundation of relegated Heart of Lions, threatening the future of the once-dreaded club, days after tasting their first ever demotion from the premiership.
Barely 24 hours after suffering the drop for the first time in 11 years, the founder of Lions, Victor Ahiakpor, waded into the controversy by blaming the present management for the club’s woes.
As if that was not enough, a peeved Ahiakpor categorically denied selling the club, contrary to the view that Randy Abbey is the majority shareholder of the club.

Ayittey Powers last Saturday recorded his third successive knock out in the year with a fourth round technical knockout (TKO) of Joe Sarbah in an anti-climax of an event that promises so much.
A non-title cruiserweight at the Kotobabi Wembley Sports Complex in Accra, Sarbah was full of bluster heading into the fight, vowing to retire Powers but he was desperately out of his depth requiring his corner to rescue him from a brutally efficient Powers who was cruising to victory.
